This book is written for coaches and athletic administrators
who want to save time, reduce the number of problems to be
dealt with and improve their program.
It opens with a brief historical overview on the origin of
sport and how this led to many different and divergent modern
perspectives on the value sports provides to society. Many
problems coaches and administrators face today are a result of
disagreement about this issue.
The next chapter provides guidance for articulating a programs
philosophy that many perspectives can agree on and establishing
meaningful benchmarks to measure progress. A detailed example
illustrates this approach.
Chapter 3 introduces the process of motor learning and how
coaches can improve methods of feedback to enhance the learning
process. Several guides are included such as a drill design
sheet and daily practice planner form.
The next three chapters deal with how to improve relations in
athletic programs. Guidelines and methods cover topics such
as communication, dealing with conflict and discipline and
how to deal with parents. The final chapter provides procedures
for evaluating and assessing a program.
