As in the past, athletes of today often mention coaches and
sports as the most influential force in their life. But what
is different today is that coaches spend less time really
coaching and more time dealing with negatives. This directly
affects the athlete as well, so that he or she receives less
quality coaching. In athletics, the challenge has become how
to create a more productive environment.
Athletic performance is based on physical talent, knowledge or
experience in the sport, emotional and motivational levels,
psychological states and traits, and social and relationship
variables. The TAP helps enhance performance by addressing all
of these components except the physical element. In short,
we provide assistance in the areas most overlooked in sports
performance.
Troutwine & Associates products and services are student or
athlete-centered. Yet you will notice many are designed for the
administrator or the coach, not the athlete directly. This is because
we know the best way to impact the athlete is through these channels.
Naturally, the process to achieve a productive environment has
accompanying responsibilities. The TAP and
The Handbook of Athletics
take these into account as well, from the player and parent to the coach
and top administrator.
